We are pleased to conclude the Archive Series with a release centered on pure visual entertainment. This DVD is packed with outstanding performances, memorable music, and the extraordinary musicianship that defined Giraffe.
The 13-song, 78-minute concert performance at Puma’s took place just one week before the Yamaha Soundcheck in Los Angeles, and Giraffe treated it as a full-scale live rehearsal. The show was captured with a single stationary camera mounted on a tripod, yet the footage never feels static. The operator enhances the performance with well-timed closeups and deliberate panning, creating a sense of immersion that makes the viewer feel like they’re right in the club with the band.
The Cactus Club segment follows with 40 minutes of blistering intensity, filmed from a single camera positioned right on the stage. The result is an up-close, immersive view that places you shoulder-to-shoulder with the band, offering a rare “member of the group” perspective you don’t typically experience from the audience’s side of the barricade. This time-capsule recording offers a rare look from the band’s vantage point, capturing not only the musicians in action but the crowd they played to. At times, the camera swings out toward the audience, revealing the hottest dance moves and fashion trends of 1989.
Also included is a 20-minute segment from the Cactus Club soundcheck, featuring an inside look at the band setting levels and fine-tuning their gear, with Kevin himself working the soundboard. Rounding out the DVD is a never-before-seen 1988 rough draft of the Giraffe music video for “Image Maker,” presented here with newly remastered audio that brings fresh clarity to this early concept version.
This lone video installment in the Archive Series is presented in a 6-panel digipak, featuring expanded artwork that complements the vintage footage and adds visual depth to the release.
